Projek Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia

Close to 100 families who were squatting illegally on the private land were shifted six months ago to the low-cost housing to make way for development.  Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the families will be given discounts to buy the apartment units once the development is completed.

He also  said  priority will be given to the families to purchase the units. "I have spoken to the developer and they have agreed to give a discount to buy the units. How much of a discount is up to the developer," he said during a dinner with former residents of Kampung Manggis. During the dinner, Raja Nong Chik also presented 76 Chinese New Year hampers to the residents.

The developer Sweet Wealth Sdn Bhd is planning to construct four blocks of 25-storey apartments at the former Kampung Manggis site. Sweet Wealth Sdn Bhd project development director Mak Foo Wei said the discount will be decided once the development is completed.  "The development should take about two years to complete. We will decide on the discount then," he said.

Mak  said  as a responsible developer, the company will be allocating 30 per cent of the units, which will be priced under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA) for the public.
